A student has sent you a link and asked you to confirm something they did for your organization. Tillyard is not open to students yet and does not send email yet, so no confirmation links are in use. If you have been sent one, tell us at support@tillyard.org. This page says what that involves. You are doing the student a favour.
In short
- Tillyard keeps a record for college students. We did not arrange or supervise what the student did, and we are not asking on our own account.
- You are asked to say, from your own knowledge, whether the student's description is accurate. You can say yes, say no, or close the page.
- If you say yes, your name, your role and the domain of your work email address are shown on the student's record, wherever the student shares it. Your email address is never shown.
- You can withdraw the confirmation, or hide your name, at any time.
- You are not asked to pay anything, to cover our costs, or to give up any right to go to court.
If this summary and the full text below ever differ, the full text governs.
1 Who we are, and what this is
Tillyard is an Ohio nonprofit corporation. Members are college students and recent graduates. One of the things a member can do is keep a record of unpaid service they arranged with a charity, a public body or an open project.
We keep the record and nothing more. We did not find the placement, set the work, count the hours or supervise anyone. We are not a volunteer agency, and we are not affiliated with any college or with your organization.
2 What you are asked to do
The page shows you the student's own description of what they did and the dates. It then asks you to choose.
- "Yes, this is accurate." You give your name and your role, and tick three statements. The screen reads: "I am at [organization] in the role I have given." "[The student] did what is described, between the dates shown, and we accepted it." "It was unpaid and it was for our public or charitable work." You then type your work email address, and we send a one-time code to it so that we know the address is yours.
- "No, this is not accurate." Nothing is recorded as confirmed. You can say what is wrong if you wish.
- Close the page. Nothing happens. The link stops working after a time (currently 30 days).
Confirm only what you know yourself. You are not asked to vouch for the student's character, ability or anything else, and a confirmation is not a reference.
3 What is shown about you
If you confirm, the student's record says that the item was confirmed from an address at your organization's domain, by your name and role. For example: "Confirmed from an @example.org address by Jordan Lee, Volunteer Coordinator." If you use a free webmail address, the record says only that it was confirmed by an unverified contact.
- The record is public wherever the student chooses to share it.
- Your full email address is never shown, and we do not keep it. It is held for the few minutes it takes to send and check the code. After that we keep a keyed hash of it, which lets us recognise the address again without storing it.
- The name and role you type are checked by the same automated screening as other text on the site.
- No tip button and no request for money appears on any page shown to you.
4 Changing your mind
After you confirm, you receive one email with a receipt. From the page it links to you can, at any time:
- withdraw the confirmation. The withdrawal takes effect on the student's record at once, and the student is told that it was withdrawn;
- hide your name, so that the record shows your role and domain only;
- tell us never to email that address again.
If someone used your name or your organization's name without your agreement, use the dispute form at tillyard.org/dispute and choose "I did not give this confirmation". You do not need an account.
5 What you agree to, and what you do not
- The three statements you tick are statements of fact. Please make them only if they are true.
- Where the confirmation page shows a further box that names this notice, you agree to this notice, and to your name and role being shown as section 3 describes, when you tick it. Where the page shows no such box, this notice is how we tell you what the page does.
- A few sections of our Terms of Use apply to anyone who uses the site without an account: in short, the page is offered as it is, our liability is limited, and Ohio law applies. Section 1.3 of those terms lists them.
- These do not apply to you: the section under which a member may have to cover our costs, the section releasing claims in advance, and the sections giving up a jury trial, a class action and setting a time limit for a claim. We do not ask any of that of a person who confirms something for a student.
- The Privacy Notice applies to what we hold about you. Section 3.13 lists it.
6 What we keep, and for how long
- Your name, role and email domain: for as long as the student's item stands, or 90 days if the link lapsed or you declined.
- A keyed hash of your email address: 24 months after you answered, so that you can withdraw or dispute the confirmation.
- A "never email me again" request: until you lift it.
The Data Retention Schedule governs these periods.
7 If you are outside the United States
We handle what you give us only to record the confirmation, in the United States, and you can ask us to delete it at legal@tillyard.org.
8 The full text
Section 7 of the Service and Volunteering Terms is the full statement of what an outside confirmer can expect. Where this notice and that section differ, that section governs.

Changes to this document
This is version 1.2, in effect from October 21, 2026.
What changed in this version:
- Now says joining is not open yet: the join page takes a college email for the early list, and we write once when you can join.
- Now says the site does not send email yet, so a person replies by hand, and promises no code or acknowledgement it cannot send.
