The Record

How The Record works

The Record sets down what a member did here so that somebody else can check it. Each item has a page that says what was done, when, exactly who confirmed it, and whether it still stands.

i Three kinds of item

Every item is one of three kinds, and its page says which in words.

Approved
The editor approved it or signed it. A paper published in Tillyard Research is approved by the editor after students at other colleges have read it; a title such as Table Host is signed by the editor from Tillyard's own logs. Only an approved item carries the editor's mark.
Recorded
Tillyard logged it, or the people named confirmed it: tables counted from the attendance log, a project confirmed by the people who worked on it, service confirmed by a contact at the outside organization. The page says exactly who, and says where Tillyard did not check a thing itself. Nobody judged the quality of a recorded item.
Self-reported
The member told us, and nobody checked. A self-reported item has no page of its own, no code and no QR code. Where it appears, it sits under its own heading.

ii What each status means

Active
The item stands, and the member is sharing it. The page shows its status as of the day you open it.
No longer listed
The member is not sharing the item now, or it is not being shown for the moment. Members choose what they share and can change that at any time, so this means nothing either way about the item.
Withdrawn
The item was taken back and is no longer part of anyone's Record. It can be withdrawn by the member or by Tillyard, and the page does not say which or why.
Nothing is listed here
The address or code does not match any item. Check it against the résumé.

iii How to check something on a résumé

A record address always begins tillyard.org/r/ and ends in 22 letters and digits. Open it and read the page: the name, what was done, how we know, and the status.

A résumé on paper carries a ten-character code beside the item. A code works in one place only, tillyard.org/verify. Type it there and you land on the same page.

The page is the record. A screenshot, a printed sheet or a line on a résumé is a copy of what the page said on one day, and statuses can change.

iv How to list an item

Every item page gives a résumé line in three lengths and says which section it belongs in.

List it under Publications, Projects, Leadership and activities or Service. It is not employment, so it does not go under Work Experience.

Publications
List this under Publications, marked as a student publication, or under Writing. Keep it out of Experience: it was your own unpaid writing, not employment.
Honors
Tillyard files nothing here. A campus award or a dean's list you add yourself sits under this heading, marked self-reported.
Leadership and activities
List this under Leadership and activities. Keep it out of Experience: you did it unpaid and on your own account, and nobody at Tillyard directed it.
Projects
List this under Projects, with the people you built it with. Keep it out of Experience: it was a student project, not employment.
Service
List this under Service, naming the organization it was done for and never Tillyard. Keep it out of Experience: it was unpaid.

Put the record link, or the code with tillyard.org/verify, beside the line, so a reader can check it.

Do not add an item under Experience on LinkedIn. It would show you as working for Tillyard, and nobody here is an employee or an intern.

v What The Record says

The Record says what a member did here, when, and exactly who confirmed it. It does not say how well anything was done, and it is not a transcript, a reference, a letter of recommendation, a certificate, a diploma, a grade, a background check or a consumer report. No member works for Tillyard: nobody here is an employee, an intern or a contractor of Tillyard, and nothing on The Record is an internship or a job.

This page records what a member did. It is not a certificate, diploma or other evidence of proficiency or achievement in any course of study. Tillyard offers no course of study and takes no payment for anything recorded here. It is not a reference, a background check or a consumer report.

vi If something looks wrong

Every record page has a link at its foot, "Report a problem with this page". Anyone can use it, member or not.

If a page names you and you did not agree to that, or says you confirmed something you did not, use the dispute form. A recorded item cannot be edited by the member it belongs to; a correction goes to the part of Tillyard the item came from.
