Tillyard Research

Publish your research, find a team, and apply for a grant. It is free to students.

  • Publish your research

Write a paper, have students at other colleges read it, and an editor reviews it after you submit it.

  • Find a team

List a project and students at any college can ask to join. Or look for one that needs a statistician, an interviewer or a second pair of eyes.

  • Apply for a grant

Tillyard pays for student research as funding allows. You can write a proposal and save it as a draft any time.

Research grants

Grants are awarded in rounds as funding allows. Applying doesn't guarantee a grant. If we can't fund a strong proposal right away, we may hold it for a later round. You're free to keep working, change direction or withdraw at any time.

Next milestone: our first research grant

Gifts pay for student research. Reaching a milestone doesn't promise a grant to any one proposal.

Why do research?

It takes real time. This is what you get back.

  1. It stands out on a résumé

A finished project shows an employer or a graduate school that you can take a question from the first idea to a written answer on your own. Few students can show that.

  2. It can help people

You choose a question that matters to you, and what you find is published for anyone to use. Your work can help a town, a group of people or a whole field.

  3. You learn how research works

Asking a question that can be answered, finding good sources, collecting data and writing it up. Doing it once teaches more than reading about it.

  4. You learn to work as a team

On a team project you split the work, keep each other on track and settle disagreements, which you will need wherever you go next.

  5. You come out knowing a subject well

By the end you know your topic better than almost anyone your age.

Papers by students

Students write research papers here. Other students read them, and an editor reviews each one after it is submitted.
